Can Timbren Axle Less Kit Install on Trailer with C-Channel Frame

Question:

Aloha Jameson, What is the thickness of the metal that your product recommends to weld on the trailer? should it be boxed in with another c channel galvanized metal over the existing trailer?

Timbren axle less kits can install on trailers like yours with C-channel frames. We've had this question sent into us before and when we spoke with Timbren they told us that the C-channel frame design will be fine assuming that the open part of the C is on the inboard side and not the outboard side of the frame. Inboard means towards the middle of the trailer and outboard means towards the outside. If the C opening is on the outboard side you would need to box out the frame by having a professional welder weld the C-closed. In either configuration the kit gets installed like a boxed frame setup.

Since you have a tandem setup the 3,500 lb axle setup part # ASR35HDS01 would work great as tandem setup.

Best option would be to take the trailer to a welder and have them determine the proper thickness of the metal to use. Most likely they'll want to match the same thickness as the frame channel that you already have but they'll be able to determine what would work the best. You wouldn't have to put a c-channel over the other c-channel. It would be just welding in a plate to box the frame member.
