Gen-Y Ball Mount Recommendation for 3 inch Hitch with 9 Inch Rise for Flat Towing
Question:
I flat tow an F350 crew cab, flat bed truck with two 850# ATVs on it behind my motorhome. Motorhome has a 3inch CURT hitch. Am I going to gain anything by having the torsion system knowing that it will have about 50# of tongue weight on it? Am I further ahead to go with no torsion? gross weight is probably 14k for the load. Can I get a true 9inch of rise using it as a pintle hook set-up? I need 9inch or even a little more.

Expert Reply:
For a flat towing setup a torsion spring version of the Gen-Y ball mount like the # 325-GH-1825 wouldn't benefit you a whole lot. You don't have enough tongue weight to really activate the torsion setup so I wouldn't recommend it. So what I do recommend is the Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers for 3" Hitch # 325-GH-1725 which can do the 9 inches of rise you need and since you wouldn't be using the very top hitch opening you'd be able to put the pintle latch in it instead and you'd have the setup you are looking for!
Worth mentioning is that you want to get your tow bar within 3 inches of being level so that you don't have suspension or tire wear issues.
