Roof Rack and Kayak Carrier Recommendation for 2017 Chevy Colorado

Question:

I have a 17 Colorado with an OEM sports bar. I need a way to mount a kayak. What would be the best rack system? I do not want to remove the sports bar, as it will serve nicely as the front mount. I do have a rolling BAK tonneau cover, but it does not interfere with the rear stake pockets. I also have a trailer hitch receiver, so I could use the Darby Extend-A-Truck, but I am a bit reluctant to use something that blocks my tailgate and am not very confident that a Darby-type connection would be very stable gets pretty windy in the Southwest and the speed limit is 85mph. Just looking for good options. Thanks

The simplest and best way you'll be able to carry a kayak on the roof of your 2017 Chevy Colorado Crew Cab will be with a roof rack and roof rack kayak carrier. A ladder rack won't fit with the headache rack you have which so with a solid roof rack you wouldn't need the Darby Extend a Rack either.

So for a great looking and aerodynamically shaped roof rack that fits your truck the Rhino Rack RS part # RRRS398B would be an excellent option. With this installed you could use the Yakima JayLow part # Y04073 and you'd be totally set. I really like this carrier as it's padded to protect the boats, can fold down when not in use, and is easy to install and load kayaks into. I attached a review video for this for you to check out as well.
