Canoe Carrier for a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 with Thule Xsporter Crossbars on a Ladder Rack

Question:

We have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 with an xporter rack. We also have a 17foot fiberlite canoe. There is not enough clearance and the canoe hits the top of the truck. What parts do we need to haul the canoe? Will the 830 stacker work? Or the j shape carrier work?

None of the actual canoe carriers are going to offer enough height to lift the canoe up above the truck roof so I suggest a different approach. You can use the Rhino-Rack T-Load, # RTL002, if your 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 has a 2 inch trailer hitch.

The height adjustable support bar will offer a third bar so you can mount the canoe a little further back and not have it interfere with the truck. If you do need a hitch, I have included a link to the hitch main page for your truck.

Canoes do not normally work with kayak carriers. But you could use a saddle style carrier, # TH881. To get it to work with the Xsporter bars on the ladder rack you will need to use an adapter, # THXADAPT3.
