Powder Coat Finish Comparison on Hitches for 2007 Toyota RAV4

Question:

On my 2007 Toyota Rav4 I currently have a draw-tite class III hitch. It has rusted very badly over time. I am considering either the Curt 13149 class III hitch or this eTrailer hitch. Do you have an opinion as to either finish, power coated gloss vs. matte, being better for rust protection over time? Thanks,

You won't have any difference in the durability of the powder coat between the matte and glossy finishes, but the matte color definitely hides any dings, dirt and scratches better than the glossy finish will.

I do know that we've had people who have had issues with the Draw-Tite hitch holding up over time compared to a Curt hitch like the # C13149 , and that's down to Curt's powder coating process being a bit more in depth. In regards to the difference in color between the etrailer # e98864 and the Curt # C13149 , the reason for the difference in color is that the matte powder coated finish on the etrailer hitch is going to blend in with the back of the vehicle much better than the glossy finish on the Curt hitch.

In order to preserve the life of your trailer hitch, I recommend making sure that you keep it clean and free from mud or other debris; you can also spray paint over and chips or scratches with a rustoleum style paint to help keep it sealed up and fight any potential for rust forming.
