Curt Echo Phone App Looks Likes Brakes Are Being Applied When They Are Not
Question:
I bought this when my original TV was a Jeep Grand Cherokee and didnt have this particular issue. I recently changed to a 2016 Ford F150 and when the brake controller was being used to tow a small camper, the blue circle on the phone app keep lighting up like the brakes were being applied even though I wasnt putting on the brakes. I was worried that somehow the controller was pumping the brakes for lack of a better term, even though I wasnt depressing the brake pedal. I dont remember the phone screen lighting up like this when I was using the Jeep as the TV so I wanted to ask if there is anything I should do or be worried about.

The internal accelerometer on the Curt Echo Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 is pretty sensitive. I have actually reached out to my contact at Curt in the past regarding the issue you are describing and he said because of this sensitivity, having sporadic (or even near-constant) blue around a portion of the large orange dot on the Echo app during travel is completely normal.
This doesn't indicate that power is actually being sent back to the brakes (or at least not enough to actually engage them) but simply a sign that the Echo is sensing some type of deceleration. This is assuming that the blue you mentioned seeing is not completely circling the orange dot, but is just outlining a small area (like in the picture I attached below).
If the blue is circling the entire orange dot on your app, or if you are actually feeling the brakes engaging while this is happening, please let me know and I will be happy to look into this further.
I'm not quite sure why this is popping up on some vehicles but not others, but Curt did assure us that it is not an issue.
