Drilling Hole in Plastic Fender to Install Clearance Light
Question:
I assume a previous owner of my trailer replaced one of the fenders with a fender that doesnt have a light. The wire and plug for the light are still there. I assume it is possible to drill or cut a hole in the fender to fit a light. Are there any special precautions to take while drilling? My other fender has a mini light with a rubber grommet. I would prefer to install the light that has a metal stud, then wire the stud to the frame for a ground. That light is designed for a metal fender. Any problem installing it on a plastic fender? Thanks.

Drilling your trailer fender to install a clearance light is a very straightforward process like you mentioned. You don't need to use any extra steps at all. Since it's a plastic fender you do have to run the ground wire for the light back to the main ground circuit of the trailer or to the metal of the trailer frame.
