Can 78" Yakima HD Bars for 2018 Ford F-150 BedRock be Cut for Custom Length

Question:

Is the 68 inch crossbar 68 inch overall including the endcaps, or are they 68 inch plus the endcaps? How long is the endcap?

The Yakima BedRock HD Truck Bed Rack # Y01160-59 with the 78" crossbars is what Yakima test fit for your 2018 Ford F-150 and since the next size down is 10" less with the 68" HD Bars # Y01158 I am a little skeptical that the system would work.

I reached out to my contact at Yakima who also had hesitations about the 68" bars fitting and they also said that ultimately you can cut the HD bars if you really want to but they don't really recommend doing that because you won't be able to fit the end caps back on.

I personally recommend sticking with the 78" bars without modifying them because it gives you more real estate for adding accessories plus it means that you get to remain the use of the end caps in case you ever need to tie down your cargo.

The overall length of the Yakima HD Crossbars # Y01158 is 68" and that includes the endcaps. The endcaps measure about 2-1/2" and they fit over the crossbar leaving you about 62-3/4" of crossbar space. I also took a look at the Yakima BedRock HD Towers # Y01160 and found that they measure about 2-1/4" where they attach to the crossbar. With all of that being said and knowing how the legs attach to the crossbars and the truck bed, this makes the max bed with for the 68" BedRock Setup # Y01160-58 about 58-1/4". If the bed rails of your F-150 are under this width then the 68" BedRock setup will definitely fit. If your bed rails measure right at 58-1/4" or more then you'll need to use the 78" BedRock Setup # Y01160-59.
