Curt Echo Applies Brakes to Maximum Setting When Brakes Are Lightly Applied
Question:
Vehicle: 2019 Ford Ranger The trailer brakes appear to apply 100 regardless of the level of pressure you apply to the brake pedal. The level of resistance that trailer gives and the blue circle in the app filling in completely backs this up. I reduced the sensitivity level down to a 2 or 3 and that doesnt seem to change anything other than the frequency at which the trailer brakes actually engage. Isnt the sensitivity setting designed to change the amount of trailer brake that is applied or is it only an adjustment of when the trailer brakes are to be engaged and the trailer brakes engage fully when they are activated regardless?

You're correct in your initial assessment. Since the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 is a proportional brake controller, it works by sensing the inertia from the vehicle stopping and will apply the brakes accordingly to the sensors. While you may have adjusted the sensitivity settings- which will sense how hard the vehicle is slowing down and decide when to apply the brakes, it sounds like the brake output is setting is set to the max-which controls how much brake is applied to the trailer when it does sense vehicle slowing down/stopping; that is what is causing this to occur.
You'll need to go into the towing profile you've set up and adjust the settings for the brake output accordingly. I've attached the part of the instructions where it details how to setup a towing profile during the initial installation for you to use as a reference when going through this process-but you'll really just need to adjust the output.
If your output is not at it's highest setting or you're still experiencing this, let me know and I can recommend a few other things to look at.
