Maintenance Requirements for Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer
Question:
Hello, I have a 1015 Yakima trailer and wondered if it needs maintenance? Does the axle need oiling? Can I wash it, since the lights are not waterproof? Ive only wiped it down and tightened a few things. It probly has about 1,200 miles Thank you

One of the many nice things about the Rack and Roll Trailer is that Yakima did a really good job of designing it so that it doesn't require a lot of maintenance.
- Yakima recommends checking the wiring connections, beginning with the trailer connector. Make sure that the pins and sockets are clean and not corroded. A thin coat of dielectric grease like # 11755 will exclude moisture from the connection and prevent corrosion.
-Regularly check the fasteners to see that they remain properly torqued. This includes the swingarm nuts, the shock absorber mounting nuts, loadbar bracket nuts, spare tire mounting nut, cross-member to side rail bolts and wheel axle nuts. Proper torque values are noted in the assembly instructions/owner manual.
-Keep the coupler latch assembly lubricated with a silicone based lubricant, as well as the wheel blocks and swing arm and tongue/frame mating surfaces lubricated as well.
-The wheel bearings are sealed, and require no maintenance.
-Keep the tires fully inflated to 32-40 psi or as stated on the tire sidewall. Under inflation and overloading are the main causes of tire failure.
You can wash the trailer and don't worry too much about getting the lights wet. They'll get wet if you tow it in the rain. As long as the lamps aren't submerged, you'll be just fine.
