What Would Cause An Above Floor Slide Out To Constantly Shear The Motor Shaft

Question:

This motor was installed in my above the floor power gear slide out system a year ago in my Okanagan 2007 116ULT truck Camper and it is shearing pins constantly. Is it supposed to have a clutch to keep it from over extending and retracting? Also, this slide only has 2 rails that extend under the slide. The original manufacturer was Happi Jac and power gear according to my original documentation, but I have no manuals for either, just instructions, and no part numbers for the originals to compare this with. Is this motor too strong for my slide and that is why it is shearing the pins on me? 138449 motor pn HELP? Thanks folks.

I am not sure which exact slide-out system you have as there are several, made by both Power Gear and Happijac but I spoke with Lippert who now owns Power Gear. They informed me that there is not a clutch to stop the motor from overextending nor do they think the motor is overpowered but what they suspect is happening is that the slide is dragging which is then not allowing the drive shaft to turn thereby shearing the pin. In order to confirm this you would need to look under the trailer while the slide is retracting/extending to see if anything is catching.

If you need a new motor/gear box, the Lippert Components D-300 RV Slide-Out Motor By Klauber part # LC138449 matches what you have now. If you don't find anything dragging you really ought to just take the trailer in for service as there is not much else that can be done without seeing the trailer firsthand.
