Which Timbren Silent Ride Suspension Kit for Trailer that Weighs 9,000 lbs
Question:
I have a 30foot bumper pull travel trailer. The max GVW is 9000 lbs. Hitch weight is 1000 lbs. Im changing out the 5200 lb axles and brakes and installing the 14000 lb tandem silent ride with new Dexter 7000 lb axles and brakes and 16inch wheels. Im adding rear aluminium storage boxes and a generator compartment on the left rear corner and a battery box on the right rear corner to hold 2 extra batteries and balance the weight of the generator. This will add approximately up to a 1000 lbs generator, batteries, boxes and gear to the trailer GVW. The reason Im installing heavier suspension, axles, brakes and wheels is because im tired of having the bare minimum under my trailer. I will feel much more confident towing my trailer knowing that Ive got a 4000 lb buffer before the suspension, axles and brakes are at load capacity. I have not yet purchased the new components but do intend to have have it all done by next spring. My question is, will the Timbren 14000 lb tandem silent ride be too harsh for 9000 lbs of weight over the axles or because of the progressive nature of the rubber springs will the ride still be smooth and stable?

If you go overkill with your suspension weight rating you'll end up with a harsher ride quality as the springs will be basically too stiff to move enough to cushion the ride quality. Since the most your trailer is going to weigh is 9,000 lbs your best option for a Timbren Silent Ride will be the 10,000 lb rated kit part # TSR10KT02. This will give you a 1,000 lb buffer which gives you peace of mind that you aren't near the capacity but also not so much over capacity that your suspension basically is ineffective and won't move at all. This also fits the same 3 inch diameter trailer axles as well.
