Brake Light Circuit Solution for Brake Controller Install Where Dedicated Circuit is Not Found  

Question:

I tap into to my right rear brake light on the rear of the truck .I tooked the advice from tread on your support page to find another source being I could not find my brake light switch due to my truck is equipped with air brakes. How ever when I turn my hazard light or right turn it activates the controller. Also it activates the the controller by pressing the brake pedal. An solution? Iam using the Predator 2 controller with a Big Tex trailer and also I should mention it doesnt activate the brakes on the trailer the controller reads 0 when brake pedal press.

If you are going to use a brake light for the activation circuit of a brake controller like the Prodigy P3 part # 90195 the brake circuit needs to be one that does not activate with the blinkers. A third brake light is typically the ideal circuit for this.

Another easy solution is to use a universal stoplight switch kit part # RM-751000 which will give you the dedicated stoplight circuit needed.

You should also try increasing the brake controllers gain setting to see if that allows the controller to activate the trailer brakes.
