Troubleshooting Brake Controller Wiring of 2005 Chevy Silverado Not Working with Brake Pedal
Question:
ON A 05 CHEVY 1500 WITH THE PLUG AND PLAY PIGTAIL IS GIVING ME TROUBLE. EVERYTHING ON THE PIGTAIL THAT PLUGS IN THE BLACK BOX TO THE LEFT OF THE BRAKE WORKED EXCEPT THE RED WHEN YOU STEP ON THE BRAKE. SO I TOOK THAT WIRE AND TIED TO THE WHITE WIRE ON THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH THAT WORKS WITH THE PEDAL AND IT WORKS LIKE IT SHOULD EXCEPT SOMETIMES IT MAKE THE AC BLOWER FAN RUN IN HIGH WHEN BRAKES ARE PUSHED. BUT NOT EVERY TIME. ANY IDEALS? THANKS!!

Expert Reply:
For your generation of Chevy truck the issue you are having is almost always the third brake light fuse being blown. When this circuit is dead it also kills the brake controller wiring circuit that shows voltage when the brakes are applied.
Try pressing the brake and seeing if the third brake light above the cab comes on and replace the fuse as needed.
