Using Manual Override Lever on Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller

Question:

I had my brake controller professionally installed and am reviewing instructions now to use it with my trailer. I have a 96 S10 and 14ft 2k lb hitch trailer. The instructions dont indicate if you ever turn the knob to the right or if it is always on manual setting? Thanks for any help.

It sounds like you might be talking about the manual override knob/lever that's located on the underside of the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller # 90885. If this is not the case please just let me know.

This lever is used to manually power the trailer's brakes in an emergency situation or if you just need some manual braking for certain applications like slower off-road towing. The lever is always going to be positioned on the right side of the controller and you will use your hand to pull it towards you when it's needed. It will then snap back into place on the right side when you let go.

Otherwise the P2 is going to automatically send back power to the trailer brakes in correspondence to your vehicle's deceleration. This essentially means that the harder you push down on the brake pedal the more power the controller will send back.

I have attached a short video demonstration on the P2 that you might also find helpful.
