Installing Brake Controller in 2001 Dodge Ram 1500
Question:
Hi i have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 that has a bad break controller looking to replace it, Found the blue connector under the dash were it is plugged in, but only have 4 wires at the hitch is their a different harness i need to install at the hitch for this to work.

It sounds like your 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 only has the factory 4-way as opposed to the 7-way. If that is the case then you will need to add the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7, which will give you a 7-way connector, circuit breakers and the rest of the hardware needed to install a brake controller.
I have added a link to a help article which details how to install a brake controller in your model year Dodge Ram with a factory 4-way and you will need to find the wire connector under the front wheel well which is going to be the wire leads for the trailer brakes. You will need Circuit Tester # PTW2979 for this as well as extra 10 gauge wire # 10-1-1. The linked help article also shows a photo of what this connector looks like for your convenience.
This will then allow you to install a brake controller, such as the Tekonsha Voyager # 39510; you will need Wiring Adapter # 3020-P for this as well.
