12 inch Diameter Trailer Tire Size with Higher Speed Rating

Question:

If i read correctly most all trailer tires are rated for 65 mph. Is that to say a 12 wheel or a 15 speed rating is mostly the same 65mph. Secondly if im running 5.30 x 12 load range D on a trailer with an all up weight of about 800lb gross i would still get heat build up and i should still inflate to max rating. I need the sidewall strength of 8ply due to use in off road environment

In general the majority of trailer tires are rated at 65 mph but here in last couple years we are starting to see more trailer tires with higher speed ratings. The smaller sizes like 12 inch diameter are slowly coming up in speed ratings but in general the larger diameter tires are easier to find with higher speed ratings.

We do have the 12 inch trailer tire from Taskmaster in the size 4.80R12 # Item # TT48012C that has an 81 mph speed rating. The weight rating for this tire is 990 lbs at 90 psi and the ply rating is 6 but you would have plenty of capacity for your trailer that weighs 800 lb. You need to make sure you inflate the tire to this max rating to ensure you get the full capacity. This fits the same 4 inch width wheel size that a 5.30-12 would fit as well.
