Recommended Brake Controller for Motorhome with Air Brakes

Question:

I need to install brake control in my 2003 newmar dutchstar motorhome , it is on a Spartan chassis with air brakes . What controller would you recommend and where do I find brake signal on that style coach with the air brakes . Just want to ensure I use the correct wire for brake input signal . Thanks

There will still be a stop light switch signal to splice into on a motorhome with air brakes so you can use any standard electric brake controller. I recommend the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller part # TK90160 which is a great option that has the advanced proportional control, boost settings for more braking power, and it has internal safeguards to protect wiring shorts from damaging the controller. The Tekonsha Primus IQ also comes with a lifetime warranty so it will be the last brake controller you ever have to buy.

In order to install the Tekonsha Primus IQ you will need to take the red wire and attach it to the cold side of the brake pedal or the wire that only has power while the brakes are applied (must test with circuit tester). The black wire will get run to the battery with a circuit breaker part # 38630. The white wire will need to be grounded and then the blue wire will get run back to the 7-way with part # 10-1-1.
