Comparing Different Types of Transmission Coolers for a 2006 Subaru Outback Wagon
Question:
how much less cooling does this smaller unit provide compared to the larger units from the same manufacturer. I do not see any mention of the cooling ability from one to another on the website. Thank you.

The reason you do not see any cooling capacity figures for a transmission cooler is because there are just too many variables at hand to give any sort of accurate estimates. These variables have to do with ambient temperature, mounting location, etc. That said, there is a way to compare the coolers and that is by their construction; tube-and-fin (least efficient), plate-and-fin (moderately efficient), stacked-plate (most effective).
The Derale Series 9000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit part # D13611 that you mentioned has a plate-and-fin construction. This is a good choice for your 2006 Subaru Outback Wagon but I recommend going with a slightly larger option, the Derale Series 9000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler part # D13612 which you should have plenty of space for.
