Comparing the Curt Tri-Ball Mount D900 and Buyers Products Tri-Ball Mount 3371802225

Question:

We have a 2016 S5 Toyota Tacoma and an old Bradly utility trailer vintage 1950 but still highly functional with a 1 7/8 inch hitch. However, we would like the capacity to use other trailers if necessary. Regarding the adjustable height tri ball trailer hitches, is the main difference between the Buyers Products Ball Mounts - 3371802225 and the Curt Ball Mounts - D900 just that the former has a greater height adjustment range? Is one of those or the manufacturer superior to the other? Also, with regard to the long 15 to 16 inch distance between the set pin on the shaft and the hitch on either of these, I expect that we would need safety chain extensions. I could not find those on your site. Can the 10inch safety cable extensions be added safely to existing safety chains on our trailer they are welded on and replacing them would be a big deal I am afraid.

The Buyers Products Adjustable Tri-Ball Hitch part # 3371802225 and the Curt Multi-Ball Adjustable Ball Mount part # D900 are both very similar. The main difference as you mentioned is that the Buyers Products Ball Mount has a longer shank which then allows for more rise/drop adjustments. The more rise/drop adjustments you have, the greater number of trailers you can tow level. In regards to the manufacturer, both Curt and Buyers Products are reputable brands so I would not let this alone be the basis of your decision.

Most likely, you would not need safety chain extensions for either of the above ball mounts but you can use cable extensions like the 10" Safety Cable Extensions part # RM-910648-10 so long as you abide by their weight capacity.
