Flat Towing a 2003 Honda CRV

Question:

My girlfriend and I are moving across the country... Wed like to tow her 2003 Honda CR-V AWD behind my 2010 Tundra. I know nothing about tow bars, but the one way rental of a trailer costs about 400 dollars. Future moves are likely in our line of work, so we were wondering if a tow bar system would be more cost effective. What kits would we need, prices, etc? Thanks

According to our friends at Remco Towing, the 2003 is flat towable without modifications. You should refer to the owners manual section regarding Emergency Towing for guidelines.

Did you look into renting a tow dolly? That might be a more economical option than a trailer.

You would need to begin with a tow bar, like the Roadmaster Stowmaster, part # RM-501. You would then need a base plate kit, part # RM-1541-1, a wiring kit like part # RM-155 and safety cables like # RM-643. Many states and Canadian provinces require the use of a supplemental braking system like part # RM-9400. The braking system would require a vehicle specific bracket, part # RM-88196.

Current pricing on all the parts I recommended can be seen by clicking on their links which I have provided.

I will also link you to some flat towing FAQ articles that you might find helpful.
