Troubleshooting Tekonsha P3 Brake Controller Installed on 2017 Toyota Tundra
Question:
My P3 has worked flawlessly since I purchased it in 2015 on my 2014 Toyota Tundra. I recently purchased a 2017 Toyota Tundra and wanted to put the unit on it. I purchased the correct wiring harness and hooked it up. Everything thing looked like it was working. The next day the unit would not come on. I checked the conditions again and the fuses and the all looked good. What could be wrong?

The first thing I'd recommend doing is unplugging the wiring harness from the rear of the controller and using a circuit tester like # 40376 to check the socket in the connector fed by the black wire. You should see a constant 12 volts on that wire, if you are not getting power on that circuit take another look at the fuse box under the hood. The lid of the fuse box should have a listing of which fuse protects which circuit. Look for 'Trailer tow' or 'Trailer Brake'.
I'd also make sure I had the correct wiring harness. Your 2014 Tundra used a different harness than the 2017, which would use a # 3031-P.
If power is reaching the controller and it is not lighting up, the controller is faulty and should be replaced. The P3 is covered by a limited lifetime warranty, so if this is the case and you purchased it from us please call our Customer Service folks at 800-298-8924.
