Expert Reply:
The maximum towing capacity of a 2012 GMC Terrain with the I4 engine is 1,000 lbs if the trailer does not have brakes or 1,500 lbs if the trailer does have brakes. If the weight of your boat and trailer is under this while loaded then yes, you can tow it. If the loaded boat and trailer weighs more than this I cannot recommend it. In order to tow a trailer with your 2012 GMC Terrain you will need the following:
Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 13591
Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 56094
Curt Towing Starter Kit part # C45534
7-Way RV Upgrade Kit part # ETBC7L (If Trailer Has Electric Brakes)
Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 (If Trailer Has Electric Brakes)
