Reese 5th Airborne or Lippert Trailair Air Ride Recommendation to Reese Airborne Sidewinder Pin Box
Question:
We have a Reese Titan 16K hitch and Reese Airborn Sidewinder. In the last six months, we have broken two bolts on the Reese Titan the hardened bolts that hold the head down, and now the Sidewinder looks unlevel, not the top turret part but the coupler. From the back side of the Sidewinder, you can see that is slightly bent? We have been using this hitch and kingpin combo for three years, same truck, with no problem and we travel a lot. Is this Kingpin safe to use? Upon further inspection there are minor cracks on the welds on the underside of the Reese revolution king pin. I am considering replacing it with either the Trailair air ride pin box or the Reese 5th airborne pin box without the sidewinder. (Our camper has a max turn front and we have the clearance) I was wondering if you have a preference for either one or if there is something else you would recommend. Came with Lippert 1116. Thanks for any advice.

Thank you for all of the information!
You are definitely correct in that if the welds on your Reese Revolution are cracking then replacing the pin box is the best course of action. Since you have enough clearance without the Sidewinder function you most certainly can replace your Sidewinder with the Trailair Air Ride 5th Wheel Pin Box # LC155943 or the 5th Airborne Premium Fifth Wheel Air Ride Coupler # 5AB-S500-700. Changing to a standard pin box should take care of the issue you are experiencing with the Titan 5th wheel hitch as well since the king pin will now be able to rotate and won't be locked out.
My personal preference is the 5th Airborne because it has proven itself among RVers to be the better option. For some reason it seems that we have heard more complaints about the Trailair Air Ride than the 5th Airborne when it comes to ride quality and maintenance. Since you travel a lot I recommend going with the option that offers the most comfort and least amount of hassle.Attached are some review videos for you to check out as well.
