Repair Kits Needed for Older Roadmaster Sterling Tow Bar

Question:

I find 2 rebuild kits on your website for my older Roadmaster Sterling tow bar serial number 016929: RM-910003-40 and RM-910003-30. There is a separate bushing part # RM-200029-00 that doesnt appear to be included in the kits? My tow bar has become stiff and doesnt slide in or out very easily so I want to replace all of the worn parts but I dont know where this RM-200029-00 Nylatron bushing goes and since it is not part of the kits, is it a part that wears out? If needed, do I need two?

You've been doing some great research!

I reached out to my contact at Roadmaster who said that the 2 kits you need to service your older Roadmaster Sterling tow bar are parts # RM-910003-40 and # RM-910003-30 like you referenced. These come with detailed instructions on how to take the tow bar apart and install all of the parts.

He also said that when you take it apart you can clean the various parts with some Dawn dish soap to help keep them clean.

The Bushing # RM-200029-00 you referenced installs at the end of the tubes and he said that those only need to be replaced if they are in bad shape (as if they have been chipped or the like). I have attached a picture showing where this bushing is located on the arm.

Other than that he said they don't necessarily recommend replacing anything else but if you find any parts that look damaged or you'd like to swap out for new ones just let me know and I can assist you further.
