Recommended Transmission Cooler for a 2008 Honda Odessey

Question:

I have a 2008 Honda Odessey with 240k miles on it. I want to tow a 1800 lb boat single axle trailer. Do I have to have a tranmission cooler? I have heard arguments for both. This is a daily driver car and really dont want to cover any part of condenser as I live in Phoenix. If ai have to have one, can they be mounted elsewhere without having to take the bumper and covers off? I am not to confident messing with the transmission lines. Also. The same question goes for power steering coolers. Thanks,

According to the owner's manual for your 2008 Honda Odyssey, both a transmission fluid cooler and a power steering fluid cooler are required for trailer towing. I would also recommend them because you have an older vehicle with high miles so this will help you still retain the daily reliability. In regards to placement of said transmission cooler, this will be most effective behind the grille which just so happens to be where the condenser is located as well. That said, we don't typically hear back of reduced air conditioning power with the installation of our Derale 8000 Series Transmission Coolers because they are only 7/8" thick therefore, I recommend part # D13503 which is only 11" wide x 8-3/4" tall but will still provide adequate cooling power. I have attached an install video for you.

In regards to a power steering cooler, I recommend the Derale 12" Frame Rail Cooler part # D13222 which can be mounted to the frame so you don't limit anymore airflow to the condenser.
