A weight distribution (WD) system is recommended if the trailer weighs more than half of the weight of the tow vehicle. If your trailer weighs less than half the weight of your 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee and you aren't having issues with towing then there really is no reason to use it (unless highlighted in your owner's manual).
If your trailer does weigh more than half of your 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee and/or you are experiencing sway while driving on the highway (which you said you weren't) then I do recommend using a WD system as it will help to prolong the life of your vehicle and promote safe towing conditions.
I have attached a link to some helpful articles on WD systems as well as a link to our selection of WD systems that you can reference. If you'd like a recommendation just let me know what the loaded tongue weight (TW) of your trailer is and I'd be more than happy to help you out!
