Bike Rack Needed to Clear Tailgate on Short Bed Pickup
Question:
Will this or any platform style hitch mounted bike rack allow me to lower my tailgate without removing the rack completely? I know there are swing mounts but they break the bank. I have a cover on my 5 1/2foot truck bed so I cant seamlessly use a bed mounted solution.

For your situation I believe that the RockyMounts HighNoon FC Solo Bike Rack for 1 Bike - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount # RKY87RR is going to be your best bet because when the bikes are removed, the arm of this rack folds down flat. Additionally, the closest part of the rack sits out 16-3/4" from the center of the hitch pin hole and then the rack tilts away, even with the bike loaded. So you will be able to open your tailgate without the bike for sure and will likely also be able to open your tailgate with the bike loaded and tilted away.
