How Much Battery Power Is Needed to Operate Electric Tongue Jacks
Question:
will this jack drain the battery during a couple uses?
asked by: Austin L
Expert Reply:
Your specific battery's amp-hour rating (Ah), its condition and the specific jack in use will determine how many uses you will get before your battery is drained.
Powered trailer tongue jacks like the Bulldog # BD500188 and the Stromberg Carlson # JET-5000, as examples from those on the linked page, can draw substantial power. The specific power drawn by the jack depends on the particular jack and the actual load that is on it. The Stromberg Carlson # JET-5000 will pull about 30-amps when it is lifting at about half its 5000-lb capacity and the 3500-lb Lippert jack # LC285318 will draw 30-amps at full rated capacity. Other jacks may pull more or less power and generally the higher the jack weight capacity the more power it will need.
A 200-Ah deep cycle battery that is in good condition and fully charged will operate such jacks multiple times without any problem. A charger like # NOC94FR will let you keep the battery in top shape.
