Curt Q20 5th Wheel Hitch Recommendation for a 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500 Long Bed

Question:

I have a couple of followup questions, I am hearing the spending more on the Curtis is worth the improvement on hitching and road noise. If so, would I still use the RP50064-58 custom kit. I have seem the hitch quota a 14 to 18 inchs adjust. Since I have not bought the trailer yet, does this matter if I but the Curtis hitch? What is the impact. Thanks again

If ease of hitching and road noise are important issues for you then yes, the Curt hitch # C16130 would be a good choice for you based on that.

Although the # RP50064-58 would work as a rail kit we usually recommend sticking with the same manufacturer rail kit as hitch that you plan on using. The reason for this is that the manufacturers test their fifth wheel hitches on their rails. For a custom rail kit to use with the # C16130 in your 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500 long bed you would want a Curt Fifth Wheel Installation Kit # C16418-204. This also is a custom installation kit that will install in about half the time as a universal kit.

The # C16130 is adjustable from 13-17 inches and should work well for you as long as you have a stock height truck and the trailer you are pulling is not an unusual height.

The impact or chucking that you asked about would be greatly reduced with this hitch due to the 2 jaw locking system that provides 360 degree jaw-to-king-pin contact. Also, the fact that the head of the hitch has a full floating head should provide you with a minimal amount of chucking. No hitch is completely silent, but this one will be much quieter than the entry-level hitches.
