Is It Bad Not To Use a Supplemental Braking System

Question:

We have been towing our 2013 automatic ford fiesta, without an auxiliary brake system. Will this hurt the car or our 26 foot Winnebago Vista?

The effects of not using a supplemental braking system will be applied to the tow vehicle rather than the toad. The tow vehicle will be responsible for stopping more weight than what it was deigned for, therefore the vehicle (although small) can push the tow vehicle during a stop which increases your braking distance. In addition to the safety risk, a supplemental braking system is required by law in most states so you can also face legal troubles as well by not using one.

If the reason that you are hesitant to install a supplemental braking system is because of modification needed to the tow vehicle or wanting to switch tow vehicles in the future, I highly recommend Blue Ox Patriot Radio Frequency Portable Braking System part # BLU37TR . This system as stated requires very minimal modifications and can easily be transferred from one vehicle to another, it is is also easy to use and easy to setup each time. It only weighs around 15 lbs as well so you can take it in and out of the vehicle as you please. In order to use this system on your 2013 Ford Fiesta the only other thing you need is the 12 Volt Outlet Kit part # RM-9332.
