How To Add a Third Brake Light Camera to an ARE Truck Bed Cap on a 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500

Question:

I have an ARE Shell and want to change the stop light on the shell to add the camera and tail light . The truck is a 2017 Silverado 1500 WT truck and had the back up camera in the tail gate . We took off the tail gate and added the ARE Shell . The camera plug in on the Silverado is in the back , will this wiring harness plug into the existing socket or do I need an adaptor .And do you have one Thanks

I do have options for you but the Rear View Safety Third Brake Light with Camera for Chevy Express part # RVS-913 will not plug into the existing backup camera port on your 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 nor will any camera system we offer. The only camera that will is the factory one that goes to your tailgate. I also cannot guarantee it will work with your factory monitor as it is deigned for a Chevy Express, not a Chevrolet Silverado.

The correct camera for your 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is the Truck Bed Cargo Camera part # 3460011 for 7" monitors or part # 3460010 for 8" monitors. However, as you can see this option does not come with the third brake light so you would need to source this elsewhere.

The best option we have for you at this time is to use the Rear View Safety Third Brake Light with Camera part # RVS-917 which could then be used with your factory monitor with the Rear View Safety Adapter Cord part # RVS-RCA5-AM so long as there are RCA jacks present. We also have the female version of this adapter, the Rear View Safety Adapter Cord part # RVS-RCA5.
