How to Install Trailer Light with Two Wires on a Trailer that Only Uses One Wire

Question:

I recently bought new LED marking lights to replace the old ones amber and red. My problem is the old ones only have 1 wire. The new LEDs have 2 wires a white and a black on the red lights and a black and red wires on amber lights . How could I make these work with only one wire from trailer?

Expert Reply:

Trailer lights that only have one wire are designed to ground through the mounting hardware of the light. So signal is carried to the single power wire of the light and then it grounds through the mounting hardware. If you go to install a light that has two wires you'd then need to take and attach the extra ground wire to the frame of the trailer and it will also ground through the trailer frame like it needs to.
