Can you Open and Close Hatchback Readily with Yakima FullBack Bike Rack Installed?
Question:
Can you open and close a hatchback readily with the Yakima fullback using it in anchor mode?

Expert Reply:
When you have a trunk mounted bike rack like the Yakima FullBack 3 Bike Rack - Trunk Mount # Y02633 it isn't recommended to open the hatch with the bike rack installed. There is always a possibility of issues with the fasteners causing damage if the rack isn't removed prior to opening the hatch.
I really recommend using a trailer hitch and hitch mounted rack if you need to access your hatch regularly. I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C53HR and the Swagman Trailhead 3 Bike Rack for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Tilting # S63365. Then I recommend using the Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock and Cable # S64031 to secure your rack and bikes.
