Recommended Complete Flat Towing System for 2000 Ford Ranger 2WD Manual Transmission Truck

Question:

I ended up buying a2000 Ford Ranger 5 speed manual, 2 wheel drive, six cylinder for the convenience of the bed for hauling. So I would appreciate a price on a complete package including the Base Plate and Brake setup for my Ranger. I'm open to Blue Ox or Roadmaster equipment.

For your 2000 Ford Ranger, I recommend starting with the Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # 483-1. Then using the Falcon 2 Tow Bar # RM-520 along with safety cables # RM-643. This will take care of the hardware connections.

Then for your wiring connections I recommend using the Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # HM56004 which plugs right into your Ranger tail lights and run it up to the front of your truck where I recommend cutting off the 4-way and connecting it to a 6-way connector on the front of your truck using kit # HM47054 or # RM-146-7. Then I recommend using battery charge line kit # RM-156-25 to maintain your truck battery while being towed. You will also need relay kit # RM-88400.

For your braking system I recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System - Proportional # SM99251. This will allow you to simply set up your braking strength at installation and then literally just requires a flip of a switch to allow you to change from driving to towing. It is a very easy system to use with an excellent reputation.

Finally, you will need a high-low adapter. I've attached an article to help you with correct measurements and linked the page to your options to make it simple. This combination of parts will give you a very nice towing system to give you peace of mind when towing your Ranger.
