Troubleshooting Roof Box Horizontal Sliding with Yakima Round Bar Roof Rack
Question:
Sliding problem with Yakima round bars with Thule Force XL cargo box On recent trip to Mammoth, which admittedly had pretty wicked crosswinds, my Thule Force XXL cargo box was sliding laterally on my Yakima round crossbars. Any tips or accessories to better secure the box in position with the round bars?

The Yakima round bars will allow more movement of pretty much any accessory due to the reduced surface area for the mount contact. The Thule Force XT Rooftop Cargo Box XXL # TH6359B or XL # TH6358B with quick-grip mounting clamps will hold the box secure front to back but with round bars the side to side movement may continue to be an issue in crosswinds.
There isn't a recommendation from either manufacturer for this but we have had customers use different technics to troubleshoot. We have seen hairspray to add extra grip but not impact the finish. We have seen adding rubber like rubber bands to restrict movement. We have even seen hose clamps # H03-0006 on the bars next to the mounts to eliminate that side to side movement.
You alternative is to upgrade you system to aero style bars to give more surface contact.
