Is the 220 pound weight limit PER bar for total of 440 pounds for two bars, or is it 220 pounds weight limit for the pair for total of 220 pounds?

The 220 lb weight capacity of the Thule SquareBar Crossbars # TH712500 that you referenced is the weight of the crossbars combined. Be sure not to exceed the weight capacity on the roof of your vehicle as well.
