Weight Distribution System for 2019 Ram 1500 with Air Springs

Question:

Hello . Im towing a 18ft open sure-trac trailer with a 2019 Ram 1500 with a atv and side by side. the trailer is 2200lbs, utv and 1300lbs and atv at 700lbs. with the addition of miscellaneous added to trailer safe number would be 4500lbs. i want to get the sag gone as much as possible. not sure which weight distribution hitch to use and would it be good to use it with a air lift 1000hd together? Your thoughts ?

The use of a weight distribution system should level out your setup without needing air bags but the two systems do work in conjunction with each other. If you already have air springs such as the Air Lift 1000HD part # AL60828HD level the truck with it loaded as it will be when towing before setting the weight distribution system ball height and attaching the trailer.

I recommend Reese Strait-Line weight distribution system part # RP66072 for your trailer that weighs 4500 pounds while loaded. The spring bars on this particular Strait-Line system are designed to re-distribute between 200 and 600 pounds of tongue weight. When the trailer is loaded the tongue weight is probably between 450 and 500 lbs. The Strait-Line re-distributes some of the weight off the vehicle's back axle to the vehicle's front axle and the trailer axles to reduce vehicle squat.

You do not have to remove the spring bars when the trailer is empty because your tongue weight while empty is around 220 pounds. It is important that the weight distribution system is rated for the empty tongue weight of the trailer because otherwise you can experience a harsh ride when the trailer is empty. It is also designed with a tilting weight distribution head that can be adjusted with a single washer and nut to keep the trailer level. Most weight distribution heads require adding and taking away washers until the trailer is level.

This Strait-Line weight distribution does not come with the adjustable shank or ball, so you need the adjustable shank part # RP54970. The ball you need is part # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch ball or part # A-90 for a 2 inch ball.
