Can An Electric A-Frame Trailer Jack Be Rotated To Clear the Tail Gate

Question:

About turning an electric RV jack sideways so the tailgate would completely come down. I have the same problem with my RV electric jack, my tailgate wont come down completely before it hits the jack motor housing. I thought about rotating the entire Jack like you suggested but measuring the triangular holes, the back two are further apart than the front hole by about 1/4 or 3/8 of an inch. I dont believe the holes would line up with the plate under the jack to rebolt the unit. I have to admit I did not try and just gave up. Could I be wrong?

An electric a-frame tongue jack like the Lippert Electric Trailer Jack with Footplate part # LC285318 can indeed be rotated however, you would not be able to align the jack exactly 180 degrees as the mounting holes would not line up as you mentioned. Instead, the jack would need to be rotated around so that the head is facing either back and slightly to the right or back and slightly to the left. If you wanted the jack to rotate exactly 180 degrees then you would need to drill new mounting holes.

The other option you have is to use a longer ball mount like the Curt Extra Long Ball Mount part # D-26 or one from the list I have attached for you below. If you are using a weight distribution system then we have extended shanks for this as well, the Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank part # EQ90-02-4600.
