Will Adding a Transmission Cooler Increase Towing Capacity of 2016 Ford F-150

Question:

The owners manual says my towing capacity is only 5,100 lbs for my 2016 f150, 2.7, 4x4,with 3.73 rear axle, because it doesn’t have a heavy duty tow package. It could be 3,000 lbs more, or 8,100 lbs, by adding that package. I want to tow a 6,000 travel trailer. Is the truck close enough to do this safely, or will the 900 lb shortfall in tow capacity Be a true safety concern. What can I do to make up the 900 lb difference?

The towing capacity stated by the manufacturer is what everyone goes by and they state that adding components will not increase the towing capacity of your truck. So to tow your 6,000 lb trailer Ford would tell you there is nothing you can do to make up the 900 lb difference and you would need a different truck to tow that trailer. Unfortunately I can't confirm anything different.

Adding a transmission cooler like the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets - Class III - Efficient # D13503 you asked from will absolutely help your transmission run better and longer, but I can't promise additional towing capacity. There absolutely is merit to the cooler and that is why it is included in a towing package, but I can't confirm the axle ratio, shift points, frame, etc. can safely handle the additional 900 lbs.
