Should Snow Chains be Installed on the Front or Rear of a 4 Wheel Drive Toyota FJ Cruiser
Question:
I have a 4x4 FJ Cruiser and wanted to know if two chains will work and if so then do I put them on the front or rear? Thank you

When using tire chains, you definitely want to use them in pairs. For your FJ Cruiser, it is best to put them on the main drive axle, which is the rear axle. On most 4x4 vehicles it is generally acceptable to use chains on all 4 tires if you wish, but in this case Toyota specifically states that chains should not be used on the front tires of the FJ Cruiser.
This is likely due to clearance issues or Toyota's concern that if the chain were to come loose it could damage the front suspension, brake lines and anything else on the inside of the tires. It is best to use them on the rear only.
