Question:
Flat towing 2019 gmc canyon denali Why is it necessary to disconnect neg battery cable while towing? And, will all presets and/or memory memory settings need to be reset/reentered each time vehicle is disconnected for use?

It is necessary to disconnect the negative battery cable according to the manufacturer to protect your vehicle electronics. Some vehicles have some built in battery capacitors that keep the radio presets and some even do the seat memory settings. I'm not sure on your 2019 GMC Canyon Denali what will still be saved and what will be lost and need reset.
If you use the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch for Towed Vehicle w/ Supplemental Braking System # RM-766 you won't need to get under the hood each time you tow and if you add the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25 you can maintain your battery charge so whatever capacitors you may have will last longer. Many vehicles are starting to use more and more backup batteries or capacitors to minimize this impact. Unfortunately to my knowledge there is not anyone tracking each component on vehicles to determine the breadth of impact.
You will want to check the owners manual for all the flat towing requirements for your specific vehicle.
