How to Hook a Converted Propane Clothes Dryer Up To a 100 Lb Propane Tank

Question:

I have a clothes dryer that Ive converted from natural to propane gas. Id like to hook up the dryer to a 100lb DOT tank. Ive read elsewhere on this site that I should use a Sturgis 2-stage vertical regulator. What about the fittings and adapters? Specifically, wouldnt I need to make a transition from iron fittings to a flare/POL fitting? Thank you,

The MB Sturgis Vertical 2-Stage Propane Regulator part # 108220 will work with your 100 lb propane tank if mounted straight up and down so that the vent is facing the ground (see photo). In order to attach this regulator to the tank you will need to use the MB Sturgis Hose Assembly part # 100202.

In order to recommend the correct fittings and hose to attach the outlet of the regulator to your clothes dryer I would need to know what fitting you have on your clothes dryer. If you do not know what this fitting is I have attached an article for you which shows the different types of propane fittings.

The outlet on the regulator is a 3/8" Female NPT therefore the hose that runs from the regulator to the dryer will need to have a 3/8" MPT on one end. I have attached a list of our hoses with this fittings for you. For example, the MB Sturgis High Pressure Propane Hose part # 100040-144-MBS has a 3/8" MPT fitting on one end and a 3/8" female flare swivel on the other. You could then use an adapter to mate the 3/8" female flare swivel to your dryer if that is not already what it uses.

It is best not to mix brass and iron fittings but it can be done if absolutely necessary. However, if you can tell me what fitting is on your dryer I can get you everything you need to make the connection without using any iron pipes/fittings. When using brass and iron together the iron will start to corrode first which is why it is best not to mix them.
