Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2001 Ford F450 Cab and Chassis

Question:

I have a 2001 Ford f450 super duty bucket truck. Currently has a pimple hook. I would like to remove the pointless hook and use a 2” receiver to haul a car hauler trailer that is 17” from the ground, the hook currently is at 25 from the ground. Will this part be safe and work for my needs? Thanks

The Buyers Products Black Receiver Tube 2" I.D. x 6" Long Welded To 1/2" Mounting Plate # 3371804055 would work as a replacement but won't allow you to use the trailer you are seeking to use due to the height unless you use a drop ball mount like the Draw-Tite Ball Mount for 2" Hitch - 7" Rise, 8" Drop - 9-1/2" Long - 12,000 lbs # 4283. Then you can use the Pin and Clip # PC3 and hitch ball # 19286.

If you want a higher towing capacity overall when you include the other components, then I recommend instead using the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class V Commercial Duty - 2-1/2" # C15845, ball mount # C45456 and hitch ball # 63840, and Pin and Clip # C21500. This hitch will sit lower and will have the larger opening allowing for more of a heavy duty ball mount.
