Recommended Supplemental Braking System to Flat Tow a 2019 Ford Explorer

The supplemental braking system I recommend for your 2019 Ford Explorer is the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System - Proportional # SM99251. This in my opinion is the most practical in result, the cost is comparable to other similar options, and the installation is only a one time install and then becomes a simple plug and play system. The installation isn't extremely difficult, but it does take some time. Once installed you will simply flip a switch each time you are ready to tow and that is all. Flip it back and you will be ready to drive your Explorer. I've attached a video to show you the installation process to help.
Some of the portable braking systems may appear at first glance to be the easier option, you still need to run the breakaway wire, and power to the unit. You then will need to run tests each time and move the unit in and out of your vehicle. It really isn't the most practical in the long run or as reliable.
