Recommendation of Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack for 2017 Mazda CX-5

Question:

Was considering the Draw Tite trailer hitch for my vehicle. What would be a good enough bike rack for the hitch to carry a couple bikes? Would the J-Pin be enough for security as well? Or should I also get another locking pin if im concerned about theft? Thanks for the help!

For your 2017 Mazda CX-5 the Draw Tite hitch part # 76138 is the hitch I'd recommend for carrying a bike rack. It has a 2 inch opening with plenty of capacity and also doesn't require the use of a stabilizer strap like the Curt equivalent for your vehicle does. The J-pin design is for ball mounts that have hollow shanks, the bike racks will come with anti-rattle devices so you wouldn't have to use that setup. A lot of the racks come with locks too.

For a bike rack I really like the Saris Freedom Superclamp part # SA4025F.

This is a platform bike rack that only touches the bike at the tires and only weighs 35 lbs. The biggest drawback to platform bike racks has always been the weight of them, but with this rack you get the best of both worlds. The preferred attachment style with the lighter weight. This rack also comes with an anti-rattle hitch pin that doubles as a hitch lock, and also comes with a cable lock for locking the bikes to the rack.
