Can Fifth Wheel Trailer Ever be Towed in Slid Back Position

Question:

I have a Chevrolet 3500 6.5 foot bed with a BandW 18,000lb slider hitch. If I put airbags in the rear of my truck, can I tow my fifth wheel in the back position? Camper is 15,000 pounds and 40 ft long.

Expert Reply:

It isn't safe to ever tow a trailer with a slider hitch in the rearmost position. You can get around in a parking lot no problem but since the weight is behind the rear axle it actually will unload the front axle which will make braking and turning dangerous. Especially in an emergency situation or if conditions were slick.
