How to Raise an Enclosed Trailer with 5,600 Lb Axles

Question:

I own a 34foot enclosed v nosefoot bumper pull trailer. It has a tripple axle leaf spring type suspension, 5600 lbs axles each, and I haul personally owned household goods usually 1000 miles in a trip. My routine is to weigh this trailer down to capacity and use a Reese Strait-Line 1,700 lb Trunnion Style Weight Distribution Kit with a Class V Titan Shank For 2-1/2 Inch Receiver behind my 2013 RAM 3500 single rear wheel truck. My current issue is that unless I consistantly have flat ground to load, I can not position the unloaded trailer in most places. After loading the trailer down, I can not move the trailer without scrapping at the hitch or aft end of trailer as most driveways have a decline or incline to them. Is there a product I can use to convert my trailer to axle-less type that has a lift built in or some kind of a trailer base lift kit that can be installed to fix the ground clearance issue of the trailer itself at the front and rear without compromising weight capacity limits? I do not have clearance issue at the axles and would only need to raise the actual trailer body at the front and/or rear at a minimum but would do just fine with an overall ride height increase by a few inches. I have a Firestone Ride-Rite Air Bag 5000lbs rear suspension upgrade to the truck, but that does not allow anything more than the ability to level the hitch to truck point by an inch or two depending on load weight.

In order to raise your enclosed trailer I have a few options for you. The first option as you mentioned is to switch to an axle-less system that has a lift kit. We do offer these but the issue you are going to run into is that the highest rated one they have with a lift is the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System part # TASR5200S03 which is only rated at 5,200 lbs. If this will work for you then in order to see how much it will lift the trailer you will need to measure from the bottom of your frame to the center of your hub/spindle. This kit has a distance of 7-5/16" from the bottom of the frame to the center of the hub/spindle so you can then use this to determine how much it will raise your trailer, if any.

The other option I have for you is an over/under kit which will only work if your leaf springs are mounted under the trailer axle. If they are then you can use the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit part # K71-385-00. This kit will raise the trailer the diameter of the axle plus the height of the leaf spring stack and leaf spring perch.

If none of these options will work for you then the only other thing I can even think of is to weld taller leaf spring hangers on the trailer or use lift blocks which we do not offer. Please let me know if none of the above will work and I can go about getting you new leaf spring hangers.

I have attached some review videos for you as well.
