Hitch and Cargo Carrier for 2018 Toyota Camry Hybrid
Question:
I need a hitch for my 2018 Camry Hybrid. I need a towing setup for our little aluminum mulch trailer. It does not have lights but we are also considering getting a hitch cargo carrier for an upcoming trip with a new college student. Since we'd block our taillights with all her stuff on the carrier I'm thinking maybe I should plan ahead and get wiring too so we can use separate lights.

We do have a hitch to fit your 2018 Toyota Camry Hybrid, the 1-1/4-inch Curt Class I hitch # C11576. The Curt hitch # C11576 installs without drilling using the included hardware pack. The instructions are linked for reference along with a helpful article with tips for an easier install. I also attached an installation video for you to check out.
For a wiring harness I recommend kit # 118763 for its simple plug-in installation and because Tekonsha products are proven to be very reliable. This 4-pole harness provides basic stop, turn and tail light functions. An install video for this kit is included too. I recommend using dielectric grease # 11755 or # LT37534 at the time of harness installation to protect those connections from potential corrosion from moisture. Application is shown in the linked video.
Towing your utility trailer will require a ball mount, hitch ball and a hitch pin or lock. Curt recommends ball mount # C45521 for your Camry Hybrid and with it you can use either 1-7/8-inch hitch ball # A-80 or 2-inch ball # A-82, depending on the size required by your trailer coupler. I also recommend hitch lock # C23517 to prevent theft of your ball mount.
Please note that when using a cargo carrier or other non-trailer accessory such as a bike rack it is necessary to support that load with strap # 18050. The strap helps relieve some of the weight on the hitch and also reduces the carrier's motion as you drive. Curt requires use of this strap for some of their hitches to maintain your hitch warranty. Using it is a good idea in any case.
The cargo carrier I recommend is the 17 x 46 inch Curt # C18145 which I like for its non-folding sturdy steel construction and 500-lb load capacity. This carrier will let you get the most out of your hitch.
