Are the Erickson Horizontal E-Tracks Strong Enough for a 5,000 lb Vehicle
Question:
Looking at putting E-track in my 28foot enclosed car hauler. Will be hauling two rock crawler buggies. One aprox 3500 lbs, and the other aprox 5000 lbs. Is E-track strong enough to safely secure these vehicles? They are secured from the axle to the tie-down points each corner. And what E-track rings would be strong enough as an anchor point? Thank you

Expert Reply:
Yes, the Erickson Horizontal E-Track part # E19148 will be plenty strong enough to secure your two rock crawler buggies. The tracks are each rated at 6,000 lbs max break strength and 2,000 working load limit. I assume you would have a track under each wheel so these figures would then be doubled. With that in mind, the weight capacity of these tracks in is regards to pull strength. The full weight of the vehicle should never be directly pulling on the tracks unless you were to hang them upside down from the ceiling (joking) so there should be no concerns whatsoever of their weight capacity.
If you are looking for a cost effective tie-down anchor then you can use the CargoSmart Rope Ring part # 3481767 which will give you a total working load limit of 8,000 lbs if used in fours. We also have the Erickson E-Chock Wheel Chocks part # EM09162-2 and the Erickson E-Track Strap with Ratchet part # EM59136 which make for an even more secure attachment point. I have attached a photo of this for you as well. These tie-down anchors are also all rated for pull strength so they will be sufficient for your needs.
